Asked if Burke’s injury was serious enough to keep him out of Saturday’s Championship clash, Jones said: “No, not necessarily. He was having trouble breathing so we couldn’t risk him (against Coventry).”
The manager added: “He’s just had a crack on his rib in training. His head’s fine, no problem at all, then he had a crack on his rib.”
The Hatters are still yet to win on home soil and they will be facing a Rovers side that have won five of their nine matches so far.
Jones said: “We’ve got to be better than we were (against Coventry), especially defensively, because we can’t keep conceding two goals at home and expect to win games. That’s not the type of team we are.
“We do like to score goals, we like to keep clean sheets. We pride ourselves on being aggressive and fit and strong.
“We had 19 clean sheets last year. I think it’s two in nine we’ve kept so far. That’s not good enough at this level to improve.
“That’s the big thing that we’re not doing at the minute. We’re conceding when we shouldn’t and it’s coming at bad times because they (Coventry) didn’t have to do a hell of a lot to score a goal and that’s frustrating.”
Town will also asses Harry Cornick’s hamstring after he was withdrawn at half-time on Wednesday night, after a first half in which he had a hand in both Carlton Morris goals, providing a deft assist for the second.
“He’s just had a tight hamstring and he’s just come back from a hamstring (injury), so rather than risk him, we have to make a change. We’ve got the squad to be able to do that, so that’s all it was, just precaution,” said Jones of Cornick, who he described as having a good partnership with Morris.
Next opponents, Blackburn, beat Town’s arch-rivals Watford in midweek to move top of the play-off places on 15 points.
“They’re a really strong side, but we enjoy playing against strong sides, we enjoy playing against good sides,” said Jones.
“I think we’ve actually been better against Sheffield United than we were against Wigan, for example, and Coventry, with the greatest of respect.
“It’ll be a tough game. They’ve got real good players and they’re in good form.”
