Peter Kioso has been sold to Championship newcomers Rotherham, opening the door for a new right back signing at Luton.
The defender was signed by former boss Graeme Jones from Hartlepool United, having come through the ranks at Milton Keynes and then dropping down to play for Dunstable Town.
Kioso made his competitive debut for the Hatters against Hull in July 2020 and, in September that year, he made his home bow against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.
During his time at Luton the 22-year-old was loaned out to Bolton Wanderers, Northampton Town and former club Milton Keynes last season, but recalled last season in January for the second half of Luton’s Championship campaign.
He made 19 appearances for the Hatters last term, and joins Rotherham as the third player to leave Luton after Kal Naismith joined Bristol City and Danny Hylton who has joined Northampton.

So, Jones wanted to keep Peter Kioso? Perhaps he should have tried a bit harder. Our loss is Rotherham’s gain. Still, enough said!
Not quite enough perhaps. Apparently, following the Northampton game, NJ confirmed that he was looking for another defender. Wouldn’t have been necessary, would it, if he hadn’t let Kioso go?
Lost cause, of course, so this time really no more to be said!

So, Peter Kioso goes. Not the most surprising piece of news, given NJ’s tendency to blow hot and cold where he’s concerned. The door opened for a new right-back signing? Shouldn’t have been necessary. But, however it came about, I wish the lad all the luck in the world.
I have to say that Peter Kioso sounds positive enough on the Rotherham website – but then I suppose he has to. Let’s hope he now has a manager who – unlike Jones – is prepared to give him a decent chance to establish himself.
