Luton Town have discovered the final piece of the puzzle for their EFL Trophy title defence after being drawn against Ipswich Town Under-21s in the group stage of the competition.
The Hatters, who lifted the trophy under Jack Wilshere last season, already knew they would face fellow League One side Peterborough United and League Two outfit Colchester United in Southern Section Group D.
The draw has now confirmed that Ipswich’s academy side will complete the group.
The group stage is scheduled to begin in early September, although exact fixture dates and venues are still to be announced.
Luton will be aiming to successfully defend the trophy they won at Wembley earlier this year, with the competition once again offering a route back to the national stadium.
The top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, with ties remaining regionalised until the quarter-finals.
This season’s competition schedule is:
- Group stage: From early September
- Round of 32: Week commencing December 7
- Round of 16: Week commencing January 11
- Quarter-finals: Week commencing February 15
- Semi-finals: Week commencing March 8
- Final: Sunday, April 11
Supporters will also be able to watch every match live, with the EFL confirming that all EFL Trophy fixtures will be broadcast by Sky Sports as part of the league’s new television agreement.
