JW Paris have released “futuristic-analogue-nostalgia fuelled track” ‘Electric Candle Light’ from their forthcoming debut album as they aim to write their name large across 2022.

The 90s grunge and Britpop-inspired three-piece, featuring Lutonians Danny Collins and Aaron Forde and former Babyshambles drummer Gemma Clarke, end a triumphant run of two UK tours tomorrow night (March 26) at Bedford Esquires.

That’s part of The Skinner Brothers’ jaunt around the country, and followed hot on the heels of the successful Project: Leave The Capital tour, which was unofficially soundtracked by JW’s signature “BA BA BABA” refrain from their single ‘Favourite Thing’.

Part of a grassroots music initiative – conceived in collaboration with Luton’s Vandalism Begins at Home and Transmission radio show on Diverse FM – Project: Leave The Capital saw JW Paris join Luna Rosa, Seán Grant and The Wolfgang and Seven Sentinels on an eight-date romp around England, including a sold-out hometown show at The Castle.

As well as the tour, the bands also appeared on a crowdfunded 12-inch vinyl EP and ‘Electric Candle Light’ was the track that appeared on that record. Now it has been released on Blaggers Records, who were one of the other organisations behind Leave The Capital, along with Bedford’s blender.

Talking of the single, which will appear on their debut album later in the summer, Collins (vox / guitar) said: “Electric Candle Light’ is a futuristic-analogue-nostalgia fuelled track all about those nights where you seem to fall into a time-lapse and wish for those past better days.”

Forde (vox / bass) added: “For us, this is one of our stand-out singles. We purposely wrote it to feel like you are looking back on those nights through rose-tinted / nostalgia glasses. The song has a net-nostalgia theme with lines like, ‘make a copy onto a floppy and allow me drive’.

“We have drawn influence from all our favourite artists including Blur, Suede, Jack White, FOALS, Joy Division and Rolling Stones.”

Clarke, whose drumming has turned JW Paris into a powerhouse unit, said: “Our new single has a mixture of dirty guitars and any analogue synth we could get our hands-on in the studio.

“We really got creative in the studio and you can really hear that throughout the track. We went in as a three-piece band and through working with JB (Pilon – producer) at Buffalo (Studios) we came out with our most creative work to date.”

JW Paris have already seen their first three singles ’Sober’, ‘Favourite Thing’ and ‘Royalty’ gain national and international radio play from Jack Saunders on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, SiriusXM, Absolute Radio and Radio X. They have supported the likes of The Amazons, Skinner Brothers, Yonaka, Avalanche Party and The Blinders, to name a few.

JW Paris has been described as sounding like “Joy Division” and “where gritty meets swaggery”, by Chris Hawkins (6 Music) and “face-melting riffs” by Jack Saunders (Radio 1).

JW Paris are set to go out onto the road again to push their new single playing with Dead Freights, Wales FOCUS Festival (Fierce Panda Takeover), Fringe Great Escape Festival and then onto a UK tour to push the debut album in the Summer of 2022.
