Former Luton Town striker Elijah Adebayo has joined Bristol City on a two-year deal after leaving the Hatters this summer.
The 28-year-old had been training with the Robins during pre-season and has now completed a permanent move to Ashton Gate, becoming the club’s 10th summer signing.
Adebayo spent six years at Luton, making 184 appearances and playing a key role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League in 2023.
He scored 10 goals in the Hatters’ first season back in the top flight and became the first player to score a hat-trick for Luton in the Premier League.
Adebayo’s departure from Kenilworth Road came after a difficult final season in Bedfordshire where he was out injured for 11 months. After recovering from a serious ACL injury sustained in April 2025, he suffered another season-ending injury in just his game back second back in March, this time his hip, for which he underwent surgery.
After his release from Luton last month, the striker posted an emotional farewell on social media, writing: “Wow, where do I even start? It’s been some journey.
“From the moment I arrived in 2021, I felt at home. The staff, my team-mates and especially the fans welcomed me straight away, and I’ll always be grateful for that. Pulling on the Luton shirt has been an honour every single time. We failed together, we achieved the impossible together, we lived out our most wild dreams together. To everyone at the club, thank you.
“From supporting me throughout my lowest moments, to celebrating our highest of highs. We are, and always will be, family. To the fans, thank you. You always welcomed me as one of your own, and I couldn’t be more thankful of the journey we went on together. Together we proved magic can happen. Thank you for everything. Magic Man.”
The striker will now wear the number 45 shirt at Bristol City. He said: “I can’t wait to get started. The place has a feel-good factor and it has been easy for me to settle in,” Adebayo said told Bristol City’s website.
“The gaffer has been very clear with what he wants from us and how to attack the season so that is a big reason why I wanted to join.
“I will try and use my experience to push the group and get everyone going in the same direction.”
He now joins a Bristol City side managed by former Lincoln City boss Michael Skubala, who believes the former Hatters forward will offer something different to his attacking options.
“We know what a good player Elijah is and he gives us something different going forward,” Skubala said.
“We have all got to know him in pre-season and we are excited to have him as part of the group.”
