Luton Town midfielder Sverre Sandal is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on a knee injury, the club has revealed.
The 23-year-old has been ruled out for the “foreseeable future” after specialist assessment found that the problem he suffered was more serious than initially feared.
Sandal, who joined the Hatters from Norwegian club KFUM in February, made his fourth competitive appearance for the club in last month’s 3-0 Carabao Cup first-round victory at Gillingham.
However, the Norwegian subsequently suffered a knee problem which has now required an operation to repair the damage.
Luton confirmed the news ahead of tonight’s League One meeting with Stockport County at Kenilworth Road.
The club said Sandal will now begin his recovery with the support of the Hatters’ medical and performance teams.
His absence represents another blow to Wilshere’s midfield options after the Hatters have already lost Jordan Clark and Jayden Luker to injury this season, while George Saville has since moved to Bromley. Though Town did add Tottenham’s Jamie Donley and Manchester United’s Dan Gore on loan in the transfer window.
The club has wished Sandal a speedy recovery and said he will have the “love and support of everyone at the club” during his rehabilitation.
